Graham Fletcher appointed next Ambassador to China

Minister for Foreign Affairs Senator Marise Payne has announced that long time career DFAT officer Graham Fletcher has been appointed as the next Abassador to China.

Fletcher has twice previously been posted to Beijing. On the first occasion as Counsellor and more recently as Deputy Head of Mission. He has also served as Deputy Head of Mission at the Australian Embassy in Washington.

Fletcher’s most recent position in the Department was as First Assistant Secretary, North Asia Division. He was also Australia’s lead negotiator in the China-Australia Free Trade Agreement.

He will replace Jan Adams, the Ambassador since 2016.
